A French work, (1393), entitled Le Ménagier de Paris, has a recipe for fried cheese sticks. In this document they are referred to as pipefarces, which means stuffed straws. These sticks, however, are "Munster sticks" as opposed to Mozzarella sticks. The idea of putting Mozzarella cheese inside instead of Munster was originally invented by students at Cornell University sometime in the 1920s. |
